Conclusion
The
distribution of the Fund of natural state-protected areas basically coincides
with the distribution of forest areas over the natural districts of the country.
The National Ecological Network mainly relies on these areas, but also comprises
a large number of unprotected objects, among which there are such objects that
cannot be included in the Fund, but play a significant role in the maintenance
of biological diversity. An important feature of the planned ecological network
lies in the fact that the most important objects of the Fund (geological, palaeontological,
and archaeological monuments of international importance), are of little significance
for the efficiency of the Eco-Network, were mainly designated as its main components
at the stage of the conceptual network.
The
distribution of the elements of the ecological network, which are mainly connected
to protected areas and survived forest ranges, has a similar pattern. Generally,
forest and forest-steppe natural district of the country hold a larger number
of elements in the ecological network. Proportion of core and buffer areas in
Codrii Forest District comprises 6,4%, in contrast, in steppe district (Belti,
Ciuluc-Olonet, Bugeac) does not exceed 0,5%. Additionally, the Lower Dniester
steppe district holds increased (4,7%) proportion of existent element of ecological
network, and some forest-steppe districts (South-Moldavian, the Lower Dniester
River, the Lower Prut River) - decreased (from 0,8% to 1,9%). Designation
of restoration areas can partially change this situation.
